In Word you can have vertical selection by holding down the ALT key when selecting text. This is especially useful if you need to modify structured text in Word. Also a Tip on Hyperlinks with PowerPoint:
You're in a meeting, you click on a link in PowerPoint only to find it no longer works! A frequent cause of such faults are the standard settings for hyperlinks in documents on your PC. To reduce the risk that working on a team document invalidates your colleagues' hyperlinks, you should uncheck the Update links on save box in the PowerPoint settings under Tools > Options > General > Web Options... > Files.
