Show & Tell Saturdays: A Grandmother's Prayer Book

Last year, my mom had read about a grandmother who had traced her grandchildren's hands and placed them in a book. The book was so that the she would place her hand on her grandchild's hand whenever she wanted to pray for them.

When Mom shared that she wanted to do something like this, I loved it! I thought it would be the perfect Christmas gift. Initially, I was going to trace each child's hand and then have it binded into a book, but I decided against it. My parents have 13 grandchildren and the number is still growing, so I decided to make a scrapbook so that she can add a page whenever a new baby is born.

Here are a few snippets from her prayer scrapbook...

It had over 20 pages, because I filled it with bible verses, quotes, poems and prayers that I found online. I took a few pictures of my favorite pages.

"I pray...that each parent be given the tools to help them raise their children responsibly, that each parent find the time to connect and nurture their child, that each parent find a balance between spoiling and discipline for their child, that each parent possess patience, understanding, and compassion..."

"...that each grandparent have the wisdom to know when to intervene and when to let the parents handle the rearing of their grandchild, that each grandparent respect their children's wishes where their grandchild is concerned, that each grandparent be able to provide a safe haven for their grandchild whenever necessary..."

"Grandchildren are bits of stardust, blown from the hand of God."

Grandma's Garden

"...I remember Grandma's garden
And I'm happy in the knowing
That when she knelt there in the soil
It wasn't just flowers she was growing."

Dear Lord,

May this child forever know and understand fully Your unconditional love, as his parents and I lavish our love on him. May he forever walk in the sunshine of Your love. And may his life always be filled with joy, wonder and laughter... Let him know Lord that with You he is more than a conqueror, and can accomplish anything. Place people around him to encourage and give him affirmation, helping him to believe in himself. Let him shine with Your light and always reflect Your love to others. Touch him Lord Jesus. Bless him. Lord hold his hand always, as he grows to manhood. Guide his steps. Let him know that he is never alone. That you are always with him to give him greater stability and security. Protect him Lord. I know that You will give your angels charge over him and bear Him up in your hands as you tell us in Psalm 91. You will protect and guide him in Your ways. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children, (and grandchildren) are walking in Your truth.” 3 John 4. May he always seek your steadfast presence. May I help to pass on Your eternal flame to my beloved Grandson, and the legacy of my love, covering him with the full armor of my prayers. May I be able to help encourage him to know that He has a rich and divine inheritance in You, and a birthright of righteousness and faith because of Who You are and who You have created him to be.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
