A Happy Heart on Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

I thought I’d share a few last minute ideas from the weekend.

My stepdaughter Trinity turns 10 this week, so we had cake and ice cream with the family yesterday.

I made her this quick banner using scrapbook supplies.

She loves chocolate cake, so I used a store bought recipe and decided to turn her cake into a spider cake.
My hubby was home, so I made him a yummy little sundae with the left over cake pieces!
Then afterwards the kids made haunted houses out of milk cartons.
The best part was when my brother handed Trinity her jar of fish as part of her gift, her laughter turned to tears of happiness.
She is such a sweetie.

It ended up being a pretty busy day, because we also had a photographer come out for our family pictures, but somehow we fit  everything in, including time to make caramel apples!
No matter how crazy it gets with the holidays and birthday parties, I always end the day with sore feet, but with a happy heart...
because together truly is the best place to be!

Tonight we are making hot dog mummies and then we’ll head out to Trick or Treat.

Hoping you have a SPOOKtacular night ya’ll!

(Sorry I had to fit in a little silly Halloween word in somewhere :)

"Let's Pray, Mommy"

This weekend we went to the pumpkin patch
and enjoyed a nice day out with the family.

Yesterday, I decided to light some candles to put inside of the girls' pumpkins for them,
but clumsy me...I burned my finger on the hot jar.

It hurt pretty bad!

I applied ice to it and when Jocelyn walked in the kitchen
and saw me shaking my finger, she grabbed my hand and said,
"Let's say a prayer, Mommy."

It was so sweet.

You see, being away from Jocelyn for a few weekends out of the month,
(when she is at her dad's house) has always been very hard.
Very, very hard.
But it's especially difficult,
when she calls me about a problem
and I am not right next to her to give her a hug.

Sometimes she calls just to talk, but most times it is because she
is nervous about something and needs some advice.
Because I am not with her,
the best I can do is give her a little encouragement
and sometimes we'll end a phone call with a prayer
about whatever the specific issue that is bothering her is.

A few weeks ago, she called me about something
she was having a little anxiety over and before I could offer to pray,
she asked me to say pray with her.
It was the first time she had called me to ask me to pray with her.
It was such a special moment.

And now, yesterday, she surprised me by saying a prayer for me.
She held my hand, called on God and asked him to heal my finger!

It was a sweet, sweet moment, by a sweet, sweet girl.
Once again, I'm a proud, proud mama! :o)

Witch Brooms (Kid Crafts)

The girls cannot bring food or candy to school for Halloween, so we picked up brown paper bags, Halloween pencils & wire twists. We turned pencils into witches brooms & another fun idea for the little princesses would be Cinderella brooms!

Happy Thursday!

A Party, Halloween Costume Crafts & A Marriage Link

Halloween is almost here!

On Saturday, Jocelyn & I had a really nice time at my niece Nicole's 3rd birthday party.

Jocelyn wore her thrift store dress (that she had to have) to the party.

I threw a few items from my closet together to add a silly look for myself.

I made some candy corn sugar cookies for the party.

The Halloween festivities really got me in the mood to start putting our costumes together for next weekend!

Jocelyn changed her mind and asked to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween. So I pulled out our old costumes and found a red hooded cape. I decided to use her old Sailor dress and some fabrics and crafts to get started.

I cut out some red fabric and used some ribbon and
lace to make an apron.

Then I added a few beads I found to give the dress a
little more color.

Not to bad for a last minute idea made from scraps found around the house! It's going to go well with her tights and cape and she'll be a cutie as always! Now
I just have to pick up and decorate a basket for her
to use to collect candy!

I also cut and frayed mine & my hubby's Indian outfits. Then I decided to put together a few embellishments for our accessories.

I found the beads, feathers and buttons at Michaels a few weeks ago.

Jocelyn is wearing the headband I glue together.

I'll probably add these to my purse and hair. Only a few more things to do and we will be ready. What fun!

Today, I did not write a post for Marriage Mondays, but I recommend that you take a moment to visit and read this post @ Come Have a Peace. Our marriages need little reminders and once again, Julie and the others who linked up did a great job encouraging us to be more intentional in our marriages!

Have a great day!

Hot Dog Mummies

When I was looking through my Halloween recipe books a few weeks ago, the girls asked if we could make Hot Dog Mummies. I bought hotdogs and Pillsbury dough in a can. We added sticks to a few of them. After we wrapped the mummies we sprayed them lightly with cooking spray. The oven gets set at 375 for 15 minutes. It was a fast and easy dinner, but the kids loved it!

The finished product.

After dinner the girls were in a silly mood. Jocelyn danced with her broom.

Trinity posed for the camera.

Then they played with the mini pool set Trinity brought home from school.

Where was brother? At practice, working hard for the next game. :-)

Costumes & Bargains

Two years ago, I joined my ~very fabulous girlfriends~ on a costume hunt. We went to a few different thrift stores before Halloween and we were all going to dress UP in sports themed outfits. I had never done that before, so I was a little skeptical, especially since it was my first Halloween with my honey! I have always loved dressing up, but all of my costumes came in bags, had the accessories included, and came from major Halloween chains. To my SURPRISE, we found the clothing that we needed and only had to pay full price for the accessories. Not to mention we had so much fun doing it!

I was so impressed that a few months later, my hubby and I hit a few thrift stores looking for costumes for my mom's 50th birthday bash. Again, we lucked out! This time for ourselves and our kids. My girls also attended the party and found some great buys of their own.

This year I planned to do the same thing for Halloween. We decided on our theme for this year early enough to give us enough time to keep an eye out for ((awesome)) finds. My hubby wasn't really feeling the thrift stores this time, so he suggested we buy the costumes in a bag. I really wanted to give it a shot and try to create our own look, but told him that if we didn't have any luck I was fine with buying them in a bag. He was a good sport and went to 3 stores with me today. I hoped to find at the most, one piece of clothing, for either of us, but instead, we found everything! We decided to dress up as Indians and so I knew that we wanted the brown suede material, but even if we found the right items, there was a slim chance that they would fit us. I was certain it would take a few weeks to find something, if anything, but once again the thrift stores amazed me! :-) We found tops and bottoms for each of us and the combined total was under $15!

Jocelyn found a dress she "had to have" for $1. We will continue to buy the kid's costumes from the Halloween store, but I don't think I will ever buy a brand new costume for myself again! I am so addicted. It is so much fun finding random peices from different stores and putting them together. I LOVE making something out of nothing! Now, I'll be on the lookout for accessories. I plan to cut and fray our tops and my skirt. My outfit matches a pair of brown suede boots that I already own too! I love bargains. Yay, can't wait to share the final product.
Happy Sunday Friends!

I needed chocolate like NOW :) This cookie recipe was experimental, with whatever I could find
in the house, but it worked!

I picked up my grandma to spend the day with her. We ended up at my parents' house, which is usually full of kiddos. My niece Mya and I had so much fun we decided we didn't want the party to end. We begged her parent's to let her spend the night with the pic above :)

When we got home we pulled out the Halloween boxes and Jocelyn and Mya danced around in old costumes.

I pulled out the Fall decor too! I decided to
hang a few Fall cookie cutters from the pot rack above. The more color, the better :)
I cut up an old grass skirt and used the straw to hang multiple decorations around the house.
I removed the red coffee mugs and replaced them with some old Halloween candy
buckets I found.
It sure doesn't feel like the season has changed in this hot AZ weather, so I figured it was time to create a
Fall atmosphere inside!

I'm so very glad Fall has arrived.
